Wait...Your intro thing to the side says "a year in new zealand"
It only took them a year to film?!
It only took them a year to film?!
Well, it was more than that all added up. Principal photography for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy took place from October 11, 1999 through to December 22, 2000—438 days.
Then there was six extra weeks of filming every year (pick-ups) from 2001-2003.
So you can think of it as one year, four years; 438 days, or 564 days.
When I say a year, I’m talking about the 14 months they lived in New Zealand for principal photography.
